The 2022 CrossFit Games Open is upon us! The first workout [22.1] will be announced on Thursday 24th February at 8PM and you can watch the announcement live at the CrossFit Games Website. We'll be having a watch party at Chalk so members can drop-in and watch the announcement together on the big screens at the gym.
The CrossFit Open is a global celebration of all the individual reasons we CrossFit. Maybe it’s to live healthier lives. Maybe it’s to lift your kids or stay healthy for your family. Maybe it’s just to prove we can do more than we ever believed possible. Whatever it is, this is the time to show the world your unique why. For all of the details on what to expect during the CrossFit Open, check out this blog post from a few weeks ago outlining what it is and why you should sign up.
Friday Night Lights
The Friday Night Lights tradition is how we facilitate the Open for all of our members here at Chalk to make it easy to participate - and have a ton of FUN as a community. There's really nothing else like it!
This will be a weekly event at Chalk held each Friday during the three weeks of the CrossFit Open. The gym will be set up in a competition style format so members can complete the Open workout for that week in a series of heats.
How will it work?
The workout will be released each Friday morning at 1AM. Our coaches will make a plan later that morning on how the gym will be set up and schedule heats. Once finalised we will send all members a notification via email with details on the workout along warm-up guides, strategy notes & more.
The first heat at Friday Night Lights will start at 5:30PM and will will continue for as many heats as needed for all athletes to go (will of course depend on how long the workout is, space required, etc). Everyone will need to book into a heat via our member's app. This will be your time to complete the workout so please ensure you arrive to the box BEFORE your heat start time.
Once your workout is completed, your judge will give you your score card. If you have registered for The Open on the official CrossFit website you will need to submit your score through your online profile. The deadline to submit scores on the CrossFit Games website is 1AM the following Tuesday but we recommend doing it ASAP so you don't forget!
All Friday evening classes will be cancelled for the three weeks of the Open. Our class schedule for the AM will be 5:45 and 6:45 - for those who don't want to take part in our event but still work up a sweat!
Judges
We want to make the CrossFit Open & Friday Night Lights bigger & better than ever before so we need your help - we need judges! If you are someone that is comfortable and knowledgeable with all movements, we will likely be recruiting you to judge before or after your heat.
The judges course only takes 60-minutes to complete (Price: $10) and you don't have to do it in one sitting; you can save your progress & come back to it. The more judges we have the bigger the heats we can run... so the bigger the buzz!
This course is for ANYONE and it's a great way to learn more about movements & standards that will enable you to bring better performances into class. Take the judges course here.
What if I can't come to Friday Night Lights?
We want to encourage you to be here on Friday Nights. The competition energy with a crowd around you often pushes you to a place you have never been. Think PRs, new movements unlocked, and really pushing to your threshold. That being said, if you simply can't come on Friday nights, you can still complete the workout on Sundays at the gym. We will be providing an Open Gym slot from 12-1PM each Sunday.
Coaches Throwdown
Our coaching team talk the talk and walk the walk. Every Friday night at 7:30PM throughout the CrossFit Open they will compete against each other in a coaches throwdown. This is a great opportunity to watch our coaches in action and hype yourself up for the workout. We all know you would like to see them suffer a little too - call it revenge for all them burpees they made you do.
The number one thing any Chalk member can do is come to Friday Night Lights and cheer! Hang out, judge, chat...just be there and bring some friends, family, kids - the whole gang! This is one of the biggest community events of the year and we would love you to experience it with those closest to you.
